Play
In play, we are enabled to do in pretend time what is either impossible, unthinkable, or dangerous to do in real time. Then, it sometimes occurs that the line between "pretend" and "real" is removed, and somehow the impossible, unthinkable, and dangerous become common practice. This is called innovation and creativity. ![]() Father: Life is a game whose purpose is to discover the rules, which rules are always changing and always undiscoverable. Daughter: But I don't call that a game, Daddy. Father: Perhaps not. I would call it a game, or at any rate "play". But it certainly is not like chess or canasta. It's more like what kittens and puppies do. Perhaps. I don't know. ![]() Man only plays when in the full meaning of the word he is a man, and he is only completely a man when he plays. ![]() Play is vital to all humanity. It is a human research activity. Play is the finest system of education known to man. ![]() Life must be lived as play. ![]() Life is like playing a violin in public and learning the instrument as one goes along. ![]() Fun has a sacred dimension. ![]() The true object of all human life is play. |
