Creativity
Possibility is the secret heart of creativity. ![]() The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance it is the illusion of knowledge. ![]() Whoever undertakes to create soon finds himself engaged in creating himself. Self-transformation and the transformation of others have constituted the radical interest of our century, whether in painting, psychiatry, or political action. ![]() The more original a discovery, the more obvious it seems afterwards. ![]() The chances for true creativity are seen in overcoming a dualism which separates the created from the creator. ![]() Genius means little more than the faculty of perceiving in an unhabitual way. ![]() You need chaos in your soul to give birth to a dancing star. ![]() Dare to be naïve. ![]() Sophisticated people hardly understand how vague experience is at bottom, and how truly vagueness supports whatever clearness is afterwards attained. ![]() In light of knowledge attained, the happy achievement seems almost a matter of course, and any intelligent student can grasp it without too much trouble. But the years of anxious searching in the dark, with their intense longing, their alterations of confidence and exhaustion and the final emergence into the light — only those who have experienced it can understand it. ![]() In producers, loafing is productive; and no creator, of whatever magnitude, has ever been able to skip that stage, any more than a mother can skip gestation. ![]() I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center. ![]() The essence of genius is to know what to overlook. ![]() Genius is nothing but continued attention. ![]() Intuition will tell the thinking mind where to look next. ![]() Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world. ![]() Most new ideas are discovered by perceiving the relationship or analogy between two quite different fields of activity. ![]() One doesn't discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time. ![]() We are built to make mistakes, coded for error. ![]() Curiosity is the clay from which all knowledge is formed. ![]() Creativity is like driving a car at night. You never see further than your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way. ![]() Freedom from the desire for an answer is essential to the understanding of a problem. ![]() It is necessary to any originality to have the courage to be an amateur. ![]() In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's mind there are few. ![]() The first prerogative of an artist in any medium is to make a fool of himself. ![]() If at first the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it. ![]() Only he is an artist who can make a riddle out of a solution. ![]() Every act of creation is first an act of destruction. ![]() The simplest things give me ideas. ![]() Discovery consists of looking at the same thing as everyone else and thinking something different. ![]() Originality is simply a fresh pair of eyes. ![]() That's the way things become clear. All of a sudden. And then you realize how obvious they've been all along. |
